Motor Protection

LED Diagnostics

Led diagnostics Keep you informed of the current status of your machines operating conditions. If everything is operating as expected a green status indication will be displayed, if a fault condition is present a corresponding code will be flashed.

Jumpstart Voltage Clamping

Jumpstart voltage clamping helps to reduce the wear placed on the motor during the high voltages applied by most tattoo power supplies. To overcome the issue of starting the motor over the cartridge membrane resistance, most tattoo power supply manufacturers have implemented a 12V pulse of approximetly 100-300 milliseconds duration to get the machine running. The problem with this is that not every machine is capable of handling that high of a voltage, if you have a 6V nominal motor you are over double the recommended voltage everytime you start your machine. To solve this problem TATTCOM motor protection will clamp the jumpstart voltage to a safe voltage for the machine.

Over Voltage

Over voltage protection prevents damage caused by excessive input voltage, if a voltage is applied that is higher than the maximum allowed TATTCOM motor protection will diable the motor and flash a fault code via the onboard LEDs.

Under Voltage

Under voltage protection prevents damage caused by attempting to run voltages which are below the operating range of the machine. Starting at these low voltages causes a motor stall condition, by detecting this low voltage before the condition occurs TATTCOM motor protection can minimize time the motor could potentially spend in the stalled state.

Over Current

Over current protection will prevent damaged caused by exessive current draw. There are many reasons a why rotary tattoo machine may draw excess current, mechanical binding and excessive load are examples of issues that may cause this fault.  If the motor attempts to draw more than the maximum current limit from the source the Tattcom protection board will disconnect the motor to prevent damage.

Motor Stall

A car engine requires a minimum RPM to stay running or it will stall, your rotary tattoo machine is no different. In the event the motor speed drops below a minimum threshold value, a stall condition is iminent and the motor is shutdown to prevent damage. When a DC motor like the one found in tattoo machines stalls, it will draw an excess amount of current due to the fact the motor is not generating any back EMF potential and sees an infinite torque load, so the only thing that is limiting current draw is the winding resistance of the motor. By detecting and eliminating motor stalls the TATTCOM motor protection will prolong the life of your equipment.

Motor Open Circuit

If the motor connection or windings fail in an open state, TATTCOM motor protection will detect this, and alert the user so the machine can be returned to the manufacture for further diagnostics and/or service.

Motor Short Circuit

If the motor connection or windings fail in an short state, TATTCOM motor protection will detect this, and alert the user so the machine can be returned to the manufacture for further diagnostics and/or service.
